Incumbent Congressman
Chris Cannon
(Votes Constitutionally only 40% of the time!)
Do you trust him?
The Center For Responsibility And Ethics In Washington doesn't!
They have listed him on the
"20 Most Corrupt Members of Congress",
as one of five to watch! (External link to article)
Did Chris Cannon use his office for financial gain?
"Three times this year, a lobbyist sought help from Rep. Christopher Cannon for his clients and got it. The lobbyist was the congressman's brother, Joseph Cannon."
"The Utah lawmaker acknowledges helping his brother's clients, including pressing Congress last month to intervene in a business dispute over an Internet contract estimated to be worth as much as $1.3 billion."
"Cannon has a financial interest in his brother's success: The lobbyist
owes him more than $250,000, according to the lawmaker's financial
disclosure reports."
"It's an obvious conflict of interest," said Wendell Rawls Jr., acting executive director at the Washington-based Center for Public Integrity, a nonpartisan watchdog group. "It's an obvious use of an insider position to further the best interest of a family member."

Did Chris Cannon use blackmail to balance his campaign deficit?
(August 2002) When Paul Drockton found out that Farmers Insurance Co was involved in certain illegal activities he contacted the office of Chris Cannon (Republican). Drockton’s office is in Provo, Utah; Cannon’s District. Cannon’s office was extremely interested and asked that all the documents be faxed to them. They were given everything. But no investigation ever came of it. . .
While Cannon's campaign contributions for the last several years had remained relatively flat, they suddenly nearly doubled with huge donations from the Insurance Industry, with ties to Farmers Insurance. Interestingly, this is a group that has never seriously donated to his campaign prior to Aug 2002! More
Does Chris Cannon represent your views on
Illegal Immigration?
Concerns for his stance on immigration stem from a comment Mr. Cannon made four years ago while accepting an "Excellence in Leadership" award from the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund.
"We love immigrants in Utah, and we don't often times make the distinction between legal and illegal," Mr. Cannon said. "In fact, I think Utah was the first state in the country to legislate the ability to get driver's licenses based on [an ID card issued by the Mexican government] and of that I am proud."
Adding to his problems, Mr. Cannon was given the award for his support of legislation to allow the children of illegal aliens to get in-state tuition rates at state colleges and universities. An earlier poll by the Tribune found that 71 percent of Utah residents want that law repealed.
Mr. Cannon also supports a "guest-worker" program that would allow illegals to remain in the country indefinitely.
"But they wouldn't get citizenship," he said.
