NRA calls Sorensen campaign endorsement mailer misleading
The Associated Press
BOISE, Idaho The National Rifle Association sent an e-mail to its Idaho members today saying that a campaign postcard sent by Republican candidate Sheila Sorensen falsely implies the gun lobby has endorsed her in the hotly contested six-way G-O-P congressional primary Tuesday.
The N-R-A has not endorsed any candidate in the 1st District race.
The gun rights group says Sorensen's orange postcard bears a strong resemblance to the official N-R-A endorsement notifications that are sent to group members before an election .
But Sorensen says she was not trying to copy the design of the N-R-A's card, only attempting to let voters know she had a pro-gun voting record while serving in the Legislature.
One of her Republican opponents, state Representative Bill Sali, says Sorensen intentionally tried to mislead voters.
***I received the above endorsement card, and until I read the May 19th newspaper article, I thought it was actually from the NRA! Of course, Sheila expects us to believe that using “NRA Endorsement Notice” as a return address does not imply it is from the NRA! OK, so who am I supposed to believe it is from?
Very deceptive !
“I will never vote to make abortion illegal.”
- Sheila Sorensen, Mar 3, 2006 at a Republican Dinner in Grangeville, ID
Sheila Sorensen likes to hide her liberal views behind other issues. However, she has consistently fought traditional family values on many fronts.
Directly opposing the party platform she claims to believe in, she voted against marriage amendments each time she had the opportunity, and single-handedly spiked the marriage amendment in the Senate two years ago, siding with gay-rights groups and the ACLU.
She was an honoree at a national fund raiser for pro-abortion candidates in March with a guest list including such liberals as John Kerry and Al Franken. This pro-abortion fund raiser contributed to Sorensen’s heavily funded campaign!
As stated in the Idaho Statesman article, “Sorensen often fought restrictions on abortion while she was in the Legislature.”
